Tech x Survival: The Disaster Ideathon

Event Overview

In today’s rapidly evolving world, humanity faces a growing spectrum of interconnected disasters—climate emergencies, global pandemics, cyber threats, infrastructure breakdowns, and even technological failures in space. As these challenges intensify, so too does the need for bold, interdisciplinary, and technically sound solutions.

Tech x Survival: The Disaster Ideathon is an initiative by the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group, BIT Durg. This ideathon invites students to engineer innovative, real-world solutions that can anticipate, withstand, and respond to crisis scenarios. With a focus on practicality, scalability, and impact, the competition challenges participants to blend creativity with engineering excellence in the pursuit of global resilience.

Event Themes

Participants will select a specific crisis domain from the following six themes—each grounded in real-world challenges and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

– Environmental and Climate Changes: Climate change, resource scarcity, environmental adaptation, sustainable technology
– Health and Biosecurity: Healthcare access, telemedicine, emergency response, public health innovation
– Digital Tech and Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity, data integrity, misinformation control
– Urban Resilience and Infrastructure: Smart cities, infrastructure recovery, public safety, urban design
– Space and Technological Failures: Space Tech, technological failure, global communication, planetary defense, sustainable life support
– Open Innovation: Out-of-the-box solutions, unconventional ideas, and cross-disciplinary innovations that tackle disaster and crisis management challenges.

Event Structure

Round 1 – Concept Submission (Online)

Teams submit a 8-12 slide presentation outlining the problem statement, proposed solution, technology stack, implementation strategy, impact analysis, challenges & mitigation strategies, competitive edge & differentiation.

Submissions are evaluated based on clarity, creativity, feasibility, and relevance to the chosen theme.

Shortlisted teams are invited to the on-site presentation round.

Round 2 – Final Pitch (Offline)

Shortlisted teams deliver a 7-minute pitch, followed by a 2–3 minute Q&A with judges.

Teams may present supporting visuals, system diagrams, mockups, or flowcharts.

Judges will evaluate pitches on innovation, viability, interdisciplinary depth, and potential for real-world deployment.

Why Participate?

This ideathon goes beyond conventional problem-solving. It challenges participants to think ahead, innovate under pressure, and apply their knowledge to address real threats facing humanity. It’s an opportunity to turn ideas into impact—through research, collaboration, and engineering ingenuity.

Whether you’re a coder, hardware tinkerer, systems thinker, or future policymaker—Tech x Survival is where your skills meet purpose.
