Abstract:

Science, Technology, Innovation are not just buzz words, they are facts of everyday life without which we cannot imagine modern existence with its comforts, its connectedness, its immediacy! The cell phone and the internet have brought “anywhere” communication and gadgets like the Google glass take us to another dimension. Advances in engineering have made travel, even to another planet, well within our grasp.

On the other hand, recent instances of hacking into personal space or cases of violent reactions from young netizens on facing curbs to online access challenge the assumptions we make. Snowden and those of his ilk challenge boundaries of national interest versus individual freedom. Do we always need to be always online, always up to speed.

Is there any need for looking at events in context?  The discussion will attempt to bring such issues to the fore and offer lines of thinking which could serve to unravel the social and other implications of technology in perspective.
