Dissolution of IEEE Bombay Section

Dissolution of the IEEE Bombay

IEEE Bombay Section has been dissolved by IEEE Inc and IEEE Region 10 with effect from 30 September 2025 as intimated by email by Antonio Luque, IEEE Vice President Membership Geographic Activities

3 October 2025

Dear IEEE members in Mumbai:
This communication is to provide you with updated information regarding IEEE in Mumbai.
IEEE is adapting its structure and changing its operations in order to better serve our members’ needs more effectively.
As you are aware, IEEE and the members of the IEEE Bombay Section have been impacted by disruptive forces that have caused confusion and hindered the ability of the Section to operate effectively. IEEE understands that the situation has created challenges, confusion, and frustration among Section members, and has taken action to support members and move in a positive direction.
To resolve these ongoing challenges and create a clear path forward in the best interest of all IEEE members in the area, IEEE has formally dissolved the IEEE Bombay Section in accordance with IEEE governing documents. A new Section, the IEEE Maharashtra Section, has been formed to serve members impacted by this change.  All former Bombay Section members have been reassigned to the Maharashtra Section effective 1 October. At this point, no entity or individual purporting to represent or act on behalf of the IEEE Bombay Section is in any way affiliated with IEEE.
We are aware that change is not always easy, but please be assured that every effort has been made to ensure a smooth transition that will not impact member activities. As part of that effort, the Maharashtra Section shall promptly conduct an election to formally elect Section officers and members of the Section Executive Committee (including Chairs of Chapters and Affinity Groups) in accordance with the IEEE MGA Operations Manual. An interim team will remain in place until the election concludes.

The interim IEEE Maharashtra Section Officers are as follows:
  • Dr. Sameer Nanivadekar, Interim Chair
  • Dr. Smita Nirkhi, Interim Secretary
  • Dr. Ashwini Malviya, Interim Treasurer
As we look ahead together, I would like to thank you for your support, partnership, and cooperation. We will continue to collaborate during this transition to ensure a smooth process, allowing you to focus on the great work you do in your region.
We appreciate your cooperation during this time. Any questions can be directed to mga-inquiry@ieee.org
Thank you for your contributions to IEEE.
Kind regards,
Antonio Luque, IEEE Vice President Membership Geographic Activities
