Mission and Focus: GRSS is dedicated to advancing the fields of geoscience and remote sensing, fostering the engagement of its members for the greater benefit of society. Our commitment spans science, engineering, applications, and education, contributing to the development of these fields.

Affiliation with IEEE: As one of the 39 societies under IEEE, the world’s largest academic and professional society, GRSS plays a crucial role with about 430,000 members in 160 countries. With over 4,200 members across 94 countries and 79 chapters globally (including 16 student chapters), GRSS is a vital force within the IEEE network.

Diverse Membership: Our members come from diverse scientific and engineering backgrounds, contributing to the fusion of geoscience and engineering disciplines. Whether supporting scientific investigations through hardware design or engaging in remote sensing-related science, our members play a crucial role in advancing the field.

Interdisciplinary Character: The unique interdisciplinary character of GRSS sets it apart. This fusion of geoscience and engineering creates an exciting role for the society in advancing remote sensing science and technology.

Professional Development: GRSS caters to professionals at all career stages, from students to retirees. Members have the opportunity for career advancement, progressing from Member to Senior Member or being honored as a Fellow, gaining recognition for their achievements.

Fields of Interest: Our society’s fields of interest encompass a broad spectrum, including the theory, concepts, and techniques of remote sensing across Earth, oceans, atmosphere, and space. Areas include land and surface processes, atmosphere and oceans, cryosphere, solid earth, geodynamic processes, natural disaster mitigation, data processing techniques, electromagnetics, radiative transfer, sensors, platforms, and instruments for remote sensing, as well as education, standards, and policy.

Join us in the exciting journey of exploration and innovation at the intersection of geoscience and remote sensing, as we contribute to the scientific and technological advancements in these dynamic fields.
