AWARD GUIDELINES

IEEE Bombay Section believes in continuous progress and appreciation of its members who are doing exceptionally brilliant in their professional career as well as IEEE volunteering activities. Bombay Section celebrates the exceptional achievements of its Student Members, Young Professionals, Professional Members, Women in Engineering and activities of its affinity groups and chapters. Awards are also given to entrepreneurs and innovators for their exceptional contributions to various fields of science and engineering, and for its members for volunteering activities towards IEEE mission of advancing technology for humanity. There are three major categories for the awards. They are broadly classified into following:

  1. IEEE Bombay Section Honorary Awards
    1. Lifetime Service Award
    2. Outstanding Volunteer Award
    3. Meritorious Publication Award
  2. IEEE Bombay Section Committee and Affinity Group Awards
    1. Research Excellence Award for Technical Contribution in Electrical Engineering and Allied Fields: For significant patents, for discoveries of new devices or applications, and for significant reductions in components or processes.
    2. Electrical Engineering Professionalism: For personal, high-level leadership in research and design performance in support of all phases of the electrical engineering profession.
    3. Promotion of Self-Development for Practicing Electrical Engineers: For arranging courses, seminars, and tutorials to enhance the educational level and the competence of practicing electrical engineers.
    4. Enhancement of IEEE in Industry and Community Service: For outstanding service to IEEE at the Chapter, Section, or Region level; and for major contributions to the industry and to the community.
    5. Engineering Management: For managerial excellence in organization, leadership, design, and development.
    6. Engineering Student Activities: For improving communications between IEEE and a Student Branch or Student Group; for support and service to a Student Branch or Student Group; and for service and leadership to the student community.

    These activities involved the student community having their groups working towards the various objectives underlined by the IEEE. Moreover, these activities are categorised and identified into the specific heads like WIE, YPAG, TPAC and EAC. These group activities are supported with various structural linkages and have important identification.

  3. IEEE Bombay Chapters and Section Awards The professional societies within the IEEE section are having their societies and chapters. These are disseminating the expertise knowledge and latest happening in their respective areas. Activities and support of volunteers are recognised by the IEEE Bombay section.

IEEE BOMBAY SECTION – HONOURS

F. C. KOHLI - LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD

Established: In 2021 as a Lifetime Service Award

Description: The IEEE Lifetime Service Award recognizes extraordinary contributions to the IEEE Bombay section in duration and magnitude of impact. Eligible candidates must have contributed IEEE Bombay section to activities over a period of more than ten years and must have served in multiple elected leadership roles within the IEEE Bombay section.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: Anyone who has served long and contributed very significantly to the Section’s growth, visibility and best practices will only be considered for the award.

Prize:  Rs. 15,000/- with plaque.

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 20 May.

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 31st May

Basis for Judging: Positive Impact on the section activities, Length of Membership, Global Representation

Committee: The award committee will have present section chair with three eminent senior IEEE members of the Bombay section with one Execom Member and the Chair of Award Committee

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM.

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible candidate is deemed to be of sufficient eligibility, no award will be given.

Publicity: The award and recipients’ names will be posted on the IEEE Bombay Section website and social media like FB page/LinkedIn etc.

P. R. BAPAT--OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER AWARD

Established: In 2021 as outstanding volunteer Award

Description: To recognize especially capable volunteer whose contribution has earned the IEEE Bombay section a distinguished position across the country. Also has a quality to make successive progression in the objectives of the IEEE.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: IEEE Members (Excluding Student Members) having at least five years of a   dedicated contribution in the various sub-section or chapters to achieve the IEEE global objectives and have done a significant contribution in the past 3 years from the year of announcement.

Prize:  Rs. 10,000/- with plaque.

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 20 May. 

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 31st May

Basis for Judging: Volunteering in various capacities in the activities related to the students, research, industry relationship.

Committee: The committee will have section chair with respective award committee chair as a member, past chair.

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM.

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible candidate is suitable, no award will be given.

Publicity: The award and recipients’ names will be posted on the IEEE Bombay Section website and social media like FB page/LinkedIn etc.

PROF. K. SHANKAR MERITORIOUS PAPER AWARD

Established: In 2021 as Best Paper Award

Description: To recognize especially meritorious paper published in the IEEE Conferences, Transactions & Journals by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: IEEE Members who are First Author(s) of papers presented in the Conference hosted in the previous year of nomination (Status at the time presentation will be valid for category such as UG, PG or Doctoral/Industry), Transactions & Journal.

Prize: 

  • Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/- each (Total 4) and Certificate for Conference Paper under
    • Students UG, PG & Doctoral
    • Professionals: Industry/Academia
  • 7,500/- each (Total 4) and a certificate for Transactions & Journals paper under

 Multiple authors will divide the prize money. Total 8 Meritorious Paper Awards will be given. One certificate/paper (hard copy) with names of all authors will be given. Each author can get an e-certificate.

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be mid April every year 

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 31st May

Basis for Judging: Originality, utility, timeliness, impact, technical content, relevance of the topic and clarity of presentation

Committee: The Best Paper will be selected by the Separate Committee founded by Awards Committee which would include minimum 5 Members which would generally be comprised of Two Academicians, One Industry Personnel, One Section Execom Member and the Chair of Award Committee.

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM Winner will be required to present the paper at Section’s Flagship Conference IBSSC during the year

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible paper is deemed to be of sufficient quality, no award will be given.

Publicity: The award and recipient names will be posted on the IEEE Bombay Section website.

COMMITTEE AND AFFINITY GROUPS AWARDS

STUDENT ACTIVITIES: BEST STUDENT VOLUNTEER

This award, supported by IEEE Bombay Section, is given to recognize extraordinary achievements by a student member engaged in activities conforming to IEEE objectives and purposes.

Established: In 2021 as Meritorious Achievement AwardDescription: To recognize especially meritorious contribution in the area of education like continuing education/accreditation/informal education/innovation in education by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: IEEE student members associated with IEEE Bombay Section, the candidate should have been active for at least 2 years in the Student Branch and is not currently the Section Chairperson.

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 30th May

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 30th June

Prize: Personalized plaque

Basis for Judging: Significant Contribution in

  • Improving the vitality of an IEEE Student Branch with regard to activities, membership, or finances.
  • Effective interaction of the Branch with the local Section or Region, or IEEE technical societies, e.g., seminars, conferences;
  • Community involvement that benefits the school and/or the community, the image of the IEEE, and the image of engineering in general. 

Committee: Student Activity Chair, Awards Committee Chair and One Execom Member (YPAG Chair)

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible paper is deemed to be of sufficient quality, no award will be given.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES: BEST STUDENT Branch Counsellor

This award is to recognize the contributions and dedicated efforts made by the IEEE Student Branch Counsellors

Established: In 2021 as Meritorious Achievement Award

Description: To recognize especially meritorious contribution by the counsellors through their work as Counsellors and Advisors, exemplify the Institute’s commitment to the educational, personal, professional, and technical development of students in IEEE related fields of interest. 

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: All student branch counsellors affiliated to IEEE Bombay section with more than 50 active IEEE student members are eligible to submit the application

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 30th May

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 30th June

Prize: Plaque

Basis for Judging: The primary criteria for selection are the enthusiastic support of the Counsellor by his or her students and the commitment he or she has made to the engineering profession by the fostering of activities which encourage the development of IEEE Student members

Committee: Student Activity Chair, Awards Committee Chair and One Execom Member (YPAG Chair)

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible paper is deemed to be of sufficient quality, no award will be given.

1c) STUDENT ACTIVITIES: BEST STUDENT branch

 

This award is to recognize the contributions made by the IEEE student branches in increasing the awareness of IEEE and the value addition the branch has brought in to the campus.

Established: In 2021 as Meritorious Achievement AwardDescription: To recognize especially meritorious contribution in the area of education like continuing education/accreditation/informal education/innovation in education by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.

 

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

 
Eligibility: All student branches affiliated to IEEE Bombay section with more than 50 active IEEE student members are eligible to submit the application

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 30th May

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 30th June

. Nomination should be filled by the branch counsellor of the eligible branch

Prize: Plaque

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 31st August

Basis for Judging:

The award will be decided based on various factors like the current membership count, growth of members, number of seminars, symposiums, colloquiums conducted in the year, Papers published/presented in various forum by members, awards won by members, significant value addition in the campus.

WIE Women in Engineering Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize a professional or student member of IEEE who has made an outstanding contribution to IEEE.

Meritorious Achievement in Education Award for the IEEE Bombay Section

Established: In 2021 as meritorious Achievement Award

Description: To recognize especially meritorious contribution in the area of education like continuing education/accreditation/informal education/innovation in education by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: IEEE WIE Membership

Prize: Plaque will be presented to best WIE volunteer

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 30th May

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 30th June

Basis for Judging: Meritorious Achievements in Volunteering, Contribution for the visions of WIE, Impact of activities over the society, Novelty of the approach, Outreach & societal Impact, Efforts in Improving WIE professional membership

Committee: WIE Chair, Awards Committee Chair and One Execom Member (SIGHT Chair)

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible candidate is deemed to be of sufficient quality, no award will be given.

YPAG Young Professionals

This award is to recognize those substantial projects or achievements of a relatively short nature (one to three years), but which have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of IEEE young professional operations.

 Meritorious Achievement in Education Award for the IEEE Bombay Section

Established: In 2021 as meritorious Achievement Award

Description: To recognize especially meritorious contribution in volunteering for IEEE, MGA, or its organizational units, not on professional achievement.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: The award will be based on a selection that recognizes individuals or teams involved with Young Professionals Activities. The accomplishments of the candidate should be of “significant performance” and should have made a distinguishing contribution to Young Professionals.

Prize: Plaque

Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 30th May

Basis for Judging: Professional and Collaborative activities conducted, Efforts taken to expand the sectional/regional/global network of IEEE Young Professionals, Efforts taken for Student to Young Professional member elevation

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM

Best Student Volunteer of Standing Committee of the Section

This award, supported by IEEE Bombay Section, is given to recognize extraordinary achievements by a student member of a specific committee engaged in committee activities conforming to IEEE objectives and purposes.

Established: In 2021 as Meritorious Achievement Award

Description: To recognize especially meritorious contribution in the area of education like continuing education/accreditation/informal education/innovation in education by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: IEEE student members associated with IEEE Bombay Section, the candidate should have been active for at least 2 years in the standing committee of section and is not currently the Section Chairperson. Volunteers from the following committees can apply:

IEEE Bombay Section Student Chapter/Society

Chapters Activities/Society Activities

IEEE chapters and societies are crucial to the growth and development of IEEE Student members. Student branches create a local network of students and give students the opportunity to meet and learn from fellow students, as well as faculty members and professionals in the field. Student branches offer numerous educational, technical, and professional advantages to IEEE Student members through special projects, activities, meetings, tours, and field trips.

However, these activities and advantages aren’t done without the effort, labor, and diligence of volunteers. IEEE Bombay section has created Student Branch Awards to recognize and reward the efforts of these tireless individuals and teams.

Established: In 2021 as meritorious Achievement Award

Description: To recognize especially meritorious contribution in the area of education like continuing education/accreditation/informal education/innovation in education by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.

Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee

Eligibility: IEEE Student/Professional members

Prize: 2 prizes on for society/chapter and one for volunteer, Plaque Best Student Chapter/Society of the Section and Best Student Volunteer of the  Chapter/Society of the Section

Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 31st May

Basis for Judging:

        1. For Student Branch Submission of Annual Report to section, Participation and Contribution in section events, Relevance of Activities conducted with goals of IEEE
        2. For Volunteers Contribution to the overall activities of the section, implementation of novel ideas

Committee: Will consist of 5 members, 1 Academician, 1 industry person, Chair of Awards Committee and one Execom Member(TPAC chair)

Presentation: Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM

Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible branch/chapter is deemed to be of sufficient quality, no award will be given.

Publicity: The award and recipients’ names will be posted on the IEEE Bombay Section website.

AWARD NOMINATION FORM
