Prof. K. Shankar is a tireless, selfless and one of the most illustrious volunteers of IEEE. He served the Bombay Section in various capacities, including as the Section Secretary as well as the Treasurer of TENCON1989.
The Section is proud to announce K. Shankar Meritorious Paper Awards (Initiated in 2021) for its members (the first author’s membership must be active at the time of publishing the paper).
The awards are given under Two Categories – namely for the
- Journal Papers and
- Conference Proceedings and four of them under each Category, i.e.
- Undergraduate
- Postgraduate
- Doctoral and
- Professionals (Industry/Academia)
Basis for Judging
Originality, technical content, clarity of presentation, impact and relevance of the topic will be the basis for judging the papers/proceedings.
Eligibility for Nomination:
- The authors of publication should be student/professional members of IEEE
- In case of papers being nominated, they should be published in a Journal during the Calendar year 2021.
- In case of proceedings being nominated, the corresponding Conference should have been held during the Calendar year 2021 and the Proceedings must have been published at the time of nomination.
- The decision of the Jury is final and binding on the nomination.
The last date for self-nomination for the awards is April 15, 2022. The awards will be declared by May 31, 2022.

Mr. K. Shankar Meritorious Paper Award – Guidelines
Established: In 2021 as Best Paper Award
Description: To recognize especially meritorious paper published in the IEEE Conferences, Transactions & Journals by IEEE Bombay Section Members at the time application.
Administration: Administered by IEEE Bombay Section Awards Committee
Eligibility: IEEE Members who are First Author(s) of papers presented in the Conference hosted in the previous year of nomination (Status at the time presentation will be valid for category such as UG, PG or Doctoral/Industry), Transactions & Journal.
Prize:
- Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/- each (Total 4) and Certificate for Conference Paper under
- Students UG, PG & Doctoral
- Professionals: Industry/Academia
- Rs. 7,500/- each (Total 4) and a certificate for Transactions & Journals paper under
- Students UG, PG & Doctoral
- Professionals: Industry/Academia

Multiple authors will divide the prize money.
Total 8 Meritorious Paper Awards will be given.
One certificate/paper (hard copy) with names of all authors will be given.
Each author can get an e certificate.
Award will be presented at Section’s Major Event, preferably, during AGM
Nominee Solicitation: IEEE Bombay Section will call for Nomination from all the Eligible members in March-April and the last date of submission will be 15th April every year
Selection / Declaration: IEEE Bombay Section will declare the winner by 31st May
Basis for Judging: Originality, utility, timeliness, impact, technical content, relevance of the topic and clarity of presentation
Committee: The Best Paper will be selected by the Separate Committee founded by Awards Committee which would include minimum 5 Members which would generally be comprised of Two Academicians, One Industry Personnel, One Section Execom Member and the Chair of Award Committee.
Presentation: Winner will be required to present the paper at Section’s Flagship Conference IBSSC during the year
Frequency: Annually. If in any year no eligible paper is deemed to be of sufficient quality, no award will be given.
Publicity: The award and recipient names will be posted on the IEEE Bombay Section website.
