Dr. Satya Gupta

CEO, EPIC Foundation & President, VLSI Society of India

Dr. Satya Gupta did his BE from BITS PIlani (1983), Masters from IIT Delhi (1987) and Ph.D. from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia (1992). He is a techno-visionary with a wealth of experience and expertise and has been part of the worldwide semiconductor industry for more than 30 years both in the USA and in India. During this period, he has been involved in all aspects of the Semiconductor Industry including Design (Microprocessor, SOCs, Wireless chips, High Performance, Super-Computing), Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing (Fabs, packaging and testing, EMS), IP development, CAD tools and associated Industry and Academic eco-system and Government Initiatives in these areas.

After a long corporate career at Intel, he has co-founded 5 successful start-ups, Intel Micro-Electronics, Open-Silicon, Concept-2-Silicon, SenZopt and Seedeyas Innovations. The focus of these start-ups has been on Semiconductor Design and High-volume manufacturing, Intelligent Electronics products for Energy Efficiency, Automation, Medical Electronics and technologies for the environment. Open-Silicon was awarded the Best privately-held semiconductor start-up by GSA and was acquired for $245 Million. Currently, he is working on a new initiative EPIC Foundation which is a non-profit organization working towards developing Indian Electronics Products of National Importance.

In addition to his professional career and start-up activities, he is very active in building Semiconductor and ESDM Eco-system and one of the most ardent champions for building Semiconductor Product Design and manufacturing in India for more than 15 years. He was a Founding member of the India Semiconductor Association (IESA) in 2005 and has been closely involved with IESA since its inception. He was IESA Chairman for the years 2012-13 and 2020-2021. He has been part of multiple policy initiatives and helmed the First Semiconductor Manufacturing study and India Microprocessor reports in 2012-2013.

Towards building Academia-Industry connects, he has been serving as President of the VLSI Society of India which is the largest platform dedicated to building Research and Industry-Academia connects for the last 35 years. He has been closely associated with SMDP Program including C2SD and helped in conceptualizing the DLI scheme by working with Meity and Invest India team. He is holding visiting professor positions at IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati, helping with research and meaningful Industry/Academia connections.

He is a recipient of the prestigious IEEE Gordon Bell award for high-performance computing, 1st to break the Tera-Flop Barrier in computing, Fastest computer in the world in 1993 and author of 6 International Patents and more than 40 papers in international journals and conferences.
