How We Work – SIGHT

How we work

IEEE SIGHT provides IEEE members an opportunity to work with a large network of volunteers around the world to carry out impactful humanitarian activities at the local level.

Step 1:
PARTNERSHIP AND VOLUNTEERING

IEEE SIGHT works with LOCAL communities on projects in partnerships with established local organizations. For SIGHT, success is only achieved through partnerships, starting with the community and extending to government organizations like NGOs, schools, hospitals, companies, and others. “Local” is defined by the fact that key leaders of the project are citizens and/or permanent residents of the geographical area in which the project is to take place. IEEE members and volunteers are a very important part, in the view of applying best practices in sustainable development. These volunteers give their time, talent, voice and resources to meet the critical needs of our communities.

Step 2:
ANALYSIS AND PLANNING

IEEE SIGHT promotes the exchange of ideas, solutions and partnerships between its network of SIGHT groups around the world. It makes efforts and tries to identify the problems faced by society and other people around the world. SIGHT focuses on sustainable solutions that make a long-term difference in the lives of people. HAC/SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) offers a Call for Proposals to support IEEE member grassroots humanitarian technology and sustainable development projects that utilize technology to address critical problems within their local community. To reduce the exacerbated poverty and laid bare systemic inequality throughout the world, HAC/SIGHT prioritize immediate impact, poverty mitigation and inequality reduction through the project in areas like Food Security, Infection Control Devices, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Medical Devices, Sustainable Power Sources, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene and Other pandemic-related topics. This step includes a deep analysis of the problems, their consequences, factors causing those problems, etc.

Step 3:
IMPLEMENTATION

SIGHT provides a structured way to implement sustainable and impactful humanitarian group projects within local communities and provides the necessary resources to drive such an initiative. This is a very important step in order to make any plan work successfully. Here you can see the communities getting changed with little efforts of IEEE members and volunteers and they also get personal benefits from it. IEEE SIGHT focuses on not just imposing the technology on the community but they work with them and transform the community in such a way that they feel part of the process and this transformation is worth rewarding.

Step 4:
MENTORING AND MOTIVATION

IEEE SIGHT also mentors the new generation for implementation of their new ideas and motivates them for supporting the same with their surroundings. IEEE SIGHT leads to the professional development of volunteers working with it. Their stories inspire others to take action, to realize their power to make a difference, and be a force that transforms the world.
