Region 10 Outstanding Volunteer Award for the year 2001

Our Life Senior Member Mr. H. Kalyanasundaram (popularly known as HK) has been selected as one of the four recipients of the Region 10 Outstanding Volunteer Award for the year 2001.

HK, 81, has been with IEEE since 1973. A Power Engineer by profession, he retired from service in 1977. He is a Member of a number of Professional Institutions in Electrical, Mechanical and Standards areas and has served in many of their committees. Since 1981 he has been an active IEEE volunteer with Madras Section, India Council and Region 10, and since 1999, when he moved to Bombay, with Bombay Section. His area has been membership development activities and especially in student enrolments and Student Branch formations.

When HK moved to Bombay in July 1999, the IEEE Bombay Section co-opted him as an Executive Committee member and the General Body later elected him to the position. He was appointed as the Section REP Coordinator and also to the MDC and SAC Committees.

In August 2000 he presented to the Region REP Coordinator, Bombay Section’s update, the first Section to do so in India. He has assisted formation of 10 new Student Branches in our Section and now with our 39 Branches we are the world #2 in respect of number of Branches under a Section. HK has been instrumental in initiating the formation of a Subsection of Bombay Section, namely the Madhya Pradesh Sub-Section, which was approved in late 2001. This is the first Section entity to be formed in India after 10 years.

HK has, in the past, received several other awards from IEEE, including the 1988 RAB Larry K Wilson Transnational Award, the Super Recruiter Award in November 1994, the IEEE India Council Distinguished Volunteer Award in December 2000, and the IEEE Millenium Award in 2000.

Congratulations, HK!
