HK, 81, has been with IEEE since 1973. A Power Engineer by profession, he retired from service in 1977. He is a Member of a number of Professional Institutions in Electrical, Mechanical and Standards areas and has served in many of their committees. Since 1981 he has been an active IEEE volunteer with Madras Section, India Council and Region 10, and since 1999, when he moved to Bombay, with Bombay Section. His area has been membership development activities and especially in student enrolments and Student Branch formations.
When HK moved to Bombay in July 1999, the IEEE Bombay Section co-opted him as an Executive Committee member and the General Body later elected him to the position. He was appointed as the Section REP Coordinator and also to the MDC and SAC Committees.
In August 2000 he presented to the Region REP Coordinator, Bombay Section’s update, the first Section to do so in India. HK has been instrumental in initiating the formation of a Subsection of Bombay Section, namely the Madhya Pradesh Sub-Section, which was approved in late 2001. This is the first Section entity to be formed in India after 10 years.
